My Top Ten Secrets to Staying Fit and Happy

1. Get off the sugar and the 'white death'(white pasta, white flour, dairy, refined sugar, white rice)

2. When strength training, work large muscle groups in a circuit-training fashion about 3 days per week. For example: Squats, Lunges, Deadlifts for legs. Push ups or Chest Press for Pecs. Pull Ups and Lat Pulldowns for back. Various planks and cross body chops for core.

3. Little to no rest between sets to keep the heart rate up.

4. Interval training for your cardio workouts meaning short bursts of intense speed followed by short active rest period to recover.

5. Eat a small meal every two to three hours to keep the metabolism and energy level up. You should never feel full or starving, just satisfied.

6. Get enough sleep. Early to bed and early to rise.

7. Drink plenty of water. I advise 3 liters per day.

8. Take a good multivitamin. It needs to be high quality, not the cheap stuff.

9. Do something fun everyday and reduce the stress in your life while staying away from mind-altering substances.

10. If you're not happy, do something to change that!!

Hi,
thanks for these tips. All good stuff. I'm curious, what do you use for your coffee if you aren't doing dairy? I can't seem to find a substitute for milk or half-and half that comes close. That is the only time I use dairy.

Silk (the company that makes the delicious soymilk) also makes a creamer substitute in a few different flavors. Steam a little bit of it and top off your coffee...it's tasty!
