Hood River Big Winds/Naish Race Series Recap, Results, Photos, and Video

Nikki Gregg and Erin Graves

Starboard SUP Team Riders Dan Gavere and Nikki Gregg both took first place last weekend to edge out some extremely tough competition in Hood River, Oregon, during the Big Winds SUP Race series put on by Big Winds and sponsored by Naish, Dakine, and Werner Paddles. (pictured Start of the mens race from 8-1)
Hood River is home to some of the top multi-sport athletes in the world in kiting, windsurfing, whitewater kayaking, snow sports and mountain biking and stand up paddling has become a favorite sport for cross-training to many of them. Also, with the high winds that blow through the Columbia Gorge there is an opportunity to paddle some amazing downwinders in 30-40+mph winds.

Based on the results of a series of six races during this summer’s season, competitors charged sprint courses every week in a wide variety of conditions such as high winds, choppy water, or in extremely hot temperatures. In fact, it was so windy during the last race that it proved too difficult for a couple of people to paddle to the finish and they needed to be rescued.

Men's Start

The SUP scene in Hood River is alive and well. A lot of people believe the most hardcore paddlers are in Hawaii and California. Not true. Within the entire state of Oregon one will find a quickly growing group of hardcore paddlers along the coastal region, around the city of Portland, Bend, and in the Columbia Gorge.(pictured below the womens August 1 Start)

Excellent topics. I really like this. After long searching I found this online that, Fitness Concepts Personal Training GUARANTEE you'll reach your fitness and weight loss goals with their program or they will give you ALL your money back… cuz' if you don't reach your goals with them they don't want your money.

Wow! How I wish I was also one of the contestant. I am sure that I will be one of the winners of that race. They look so happy in that event.
